10.25.23

at platypus only saw home & office. so good. it was officecore music set up like a performance evaluation & people in blue "my onus corp" polos & khakis sat on the side & reviewed him. we got conference badges with qr's on the back so we could weigh in too & it was on a sliding scale updated live. the tunes were also so good, everyone danced. he got a score of 12 & a "requires additional training" rating & they all walked out with their heads down & sat in a van until everyone left. cliff hanger ending, can't wait to see the next show.

6.23.23

played as lucky shells at rootwad park & saw zak m (crooner), data unknown (indy), and grain (goth puppet act). maybe my favorite show this year. rootwad park is this giant metal and cement turtle fighting a snake with a tunnel underneath. the weather was perfect and data unknown brought tambourines for everyone to play.

4.29.23

saw Janet at Kerr, there was a sound

4.25.23

saw clear capsule, dour, & enemy airship at cbgb. I was dog tired, but glad that I stayed til the end. I want to go to fewer shows, but I also never regret going to see live music. there are so many cool/ creative minds around us in stl

4.22.23

played the first experimental mini-fest called ocean of rainbow static at GCADD in granite city, IL. featured a presentation on satie & queerness, prose & poetry reading, ambient/electronic sets, even some emo songs on guitar. gabe did a sick laser light/fog display for their noisey/ambient set. I played cello in a trio w/ ztbd & birdie edge & our project featured recorded samples of loons, mourning doves, and barred owls. my favorite set was oxhearding, he performed an electronic piece dedicated to his late cat.

4.21.23

birdie edge, Stella, pleasants(ia), and Fault played splashpad

4.20.23

grain (puppet musician), frank hurricane (story folk), john beabout (sudoku gospel rock), janet (performance/music/train sound jump scares!), & zak m @ chill dawg cove.

4.19.23

went to see proxy (Denton, tx), Death Pose, Janet Xmas, and hippyfuckers at sinkhole. this show was maybe the most I've seen people slam dance at this venue. proxy was fun to watch because the lead singer kept putting the microphone in their mouth, hitting themselves, and lit their arm hair on fire. janet Xmas did performance art involving a twinkly piano track & a purse that she dumped onto the floor 3 times

4.16.23

played at dear mom (grocery? boutique??) in Indianapolis with Brilliant Eminence (new wave) & Zen Ballista (jam collective).

4.15.23

played at a house called the square room. got to hear hemlock for the 2nd time this year:-) & Julia blair trio also again

4.14.23

played at commodore club in Appleton, WI with poor ridley (awesome) & Julia blair (so awesome). ridley was vocals & guitar, really cool lyrics. Julia Blair was a bass/keys/guitar rock trio. we danced & sang along :-)

4.13.23

played with reflection of an angel & perfect lovers at farewell in kcmo. on tour with birdie. singer-songwriter type show, roaa's voice was like if gordan gano sang a little more chill & perfect lovers had really interesting melodic writing! had a really nice time.

4.12.23

played with zak m. and birdie edge in a empty grass lot by the overpass. it was loud from cars but if you shifted your focus to the highway, the music became the interrupting force & somehow easier to hear. heard birdsong and people shuffling in the grass too. thought a lot about oliveros' sonic meditations.

4.9.23

lucky shells played w/ products (va), pealds, and crisis walk-ins at sinkhole. crisis did an easter-themed experimental set. they broke eggs on their foreheads & played spring reverb w/ a carrot. cool poetry/ soundscape-y noise

4.6.23

went to see birdie edge, black button (va), and miracle whip @ splash pad. light hc, punk music. people slam danced 4 sure.

3.31.23

show was @ momo, saw soup activists (first show as a 7 piece!), jenerator jenkins, and crisis walk-ins. left before dour :( CW is my favorite project in stl still!! so good. jenerator was really fun, the songs were short. the last song they played was really interesting, hope they release music soon. fun to see a pop band with omnichord. :-) & I hope soup activists play more shows in stl soon, I haven't seen people in stl dance to a band like that in a while. they also covered a pixies song & ppl went nuts

3.29.23

I've got half a motor running so I'm just gonna say Lucky Shells played with Simon Joyner & Janewave & there was also a very cute short films screening before & the night was awesome. a lot of local artists I look up to said very kind things & i am so grateful to this community.

3.27.23

saw lomelda & the magnetic fields at "city winery" lol. weird venue, would not choose to go there, but wow what a beautiful time! this was my 2nd time seeing lomelda, the first being at cafe b in columbia in 2019 with rae fitzgerald & hovvdy. hannah read has maybe had the most impact on my songwriting style moreso than any other artist (idk how much it comes thru) but seeing her perform is such a dreammm. she played as a duo w/ another vocalist/guitarist/electric violin & they used drum machine/water effects(?) in a cool way. played a new song about basketball. her music makes me feel so much.

the magnetic fields were so cool 2 see too! they are all so cute & I cannot imagine playing my current music in 30 years, but they still looked like they were having fun & like each other! played for like, 2 hours. i also sat w/ some newer friends I've been wanting 2 get to know better who I lucked out in finding a seat next to.

3.26.23

death pose, buio omega, & nick g band at sinkhole. hardcore show. notable part of the evening was that joseph brought a chain & he sprinkled a beer on us.

3.24.23

saw Janet Xmas, Nuxx Vomica, Clock Serum, FKA Ice, & The Mall at kerr. JX did a fish tank ritual with mirrors, candles, & blood. the rest of the artists were edm/hyperpop/gothy synthpop.

3.17.23

LS played a show with Living Dream from Indianapolis (psych/genreless? very dancy) & hennen @ splash pad. it was fun to see so many people dancing in my basement!

3.16.23

saw Dave Stone's ensemble play free jazz at cbgb tonite. rules hard. i need to practice more.

3.10.23

played a show on 3/9 with Hemlock from chicago & dee bird in my basement. this was the first show e & i have held at the splash pad & it went so well! ended by 11, made some new friends who I'd seen around but hadn't had the chance to talk to yet. i have a hard time not staying shy at bars & most shows but i think I'm coming out of it.

then 3/10 saw a show at platypus with Crisis Walkins (soo good, 1 of my favorite local bands), cash langdon (AL), faux deep (AL), and algae dust.

3.5.23

last day of tf!! playing two more pre-film sets. my bandmate is feeling under the weather so I'm going solo. I love columbia a lot but I'm ready to return home.

3.4.23

went & saw Macie Stewart perform with a synth/sax/cello ensemble in a church. so incredible & inspiring, definitely one of those sets that makes you want to make music afterwards.

then went to karaoke w/ some of my band mates's old friends

(midnight am)

at true/false film festival in Colombia, MO. Played a show at eastside tavern with local shoegaze band, Drona. they are all so young and rip so hard. I can't imagine being that young & cool. then went to a film about a high school mariachi band competing at state. it was so touching. was there with some friends who came down from stl, my bandmate/best friend, and another local musician I'm friends with. feels surreal to be in columbia in this capacity. this city holds a special place in my heart. playing 4 more sets before other film screenings this weekend. perpetually busy, love this so much

3.2.23

played a show with Telepathy Club and static paisley. TC has been one of my favorite bands since like, 2019 so it was a dream to even get to see them play live. I'm not trying to be corny, their music is just so moving on a vibrational level 2 me. static paisley was so sick too, beats/samples with fun distorted guitar. best show I've been to in a minute!

2.20.23

saw hennen, the boy, and Frankie Valet (reunited!) it was awesome, these were all folks who used to come up to play at the aquadome. it was such a big deal to see music come up from out of town back then.

2.18.23

saw Madelyn Merkey, Jack Callahan, and Jeff Witscher (new music, electronic) & it was so fun. 2 guys talking to an algorithm that responded to their improvised conversation. then went to O'Connells to see the Dave stone trio (jazz). epic night

2.16.23

saw hippy fuckers & littered with arrows at sinkhole and then left early. I think all shows should start an hour earlier.

2.8.23

saw a screening for a short film called Unbraid directed & shot by Matt Amato, scored by Louis Wall. it followed parts of the carreer of STL local architectural preservationist Larry Giles, but was mostly long scenes of buildings, some construction footage from now and the 70s, and some scenes by the river that i really enjoyed. the music was so good, i hope the composer puts it on bandcamp.

2.6.23

saw eric hall, deniz ozani, & zak m at platypus. ambient noise sets & freak folk. I missed the last 2 sets bc I got tired.

2.3.23

saw punk lady apple, dubb nubb, and tenci. one of my favorite shows all year. I normally don't listen to lyrics as much when it's live music but the poetry trapped me.

1.30.23

played a MG set at CBGB, also saw my friend birdie edge play (folk/american primitive) & a very sick band from chicago called Glyders (psych rock/kraut). sandy did projections

1.28.23

midday at the STL central library I went to see Hearding Cats present an AV noise set. they didn't talk about the equipment they were using, but the visual aspect was pretty psychedelic/geometric

evening, went to synoptic frequencies 4th(?) show at MOCRA, feat Forest Management from Chicago (lovely ambient electronic) and NNN Smith/Henry Claude/Damon Smith (acoustic/percussive/sax/bass/electronic trio)

1.26.23

played a Lucky Shells set at CBGB. Algae Dust also played (indie rock, dream pop) and Nico Play (bilingual folk, dream pop) from Chicago.

1.24.23

Saw the Mall(doomy electronic), Death Pose (hardcore), Scott Plant(doomy electronic), and Dolor Portion (edm/noise) at Kerr Foundation.

1.13.23

B.O.R.N., paternity test, and death pose at the sinkhole (all hardcore)

1.6.23

played mg set at chill dawg cove with Wobbly Chair and Brawsh (folk show)
